![]() ![]() You can level up guns, your suit, and your stasis, making you stronger in some ways more than others depending on which nodes you choose to unlock. While clearing out the infestation you will be picking up power nodes, which unlock points in your tech tree. The main story is somewhat linear but what isn’t linear is how you build your character from the ground up through workbenches and stores. There’s a ton to do and see in the single player mode of the game. Single player stands on its own – It’s in my opinion that Dead Space 2 could have easily stood on it’s own offering just a single player campaign. This leads to a bloody dismemberment that is never for the faint of heart. Sometimes you succeed, and other times the aliens overwhelm you. They all have these scripted parts that somehow flow together with you trying to escape by pressing A. In that time, I can say that I saw the same death animations only a handful of times. In the 13 hours or so that it took me to beat the game, I died literally a hundred times if not more. But not many have succeeded at the level that Dead Space 2 has. There are quite a few of these moments throughout the campaign.īringing gruesome deaths to life – Many games have attempted to do the trick of making dying cool. But it’s all taken in stride, these set instances are plenty in Dead Space 2. The set pieces in Dead Space 2 are some of the best I’ve ever seen and will leave you mouth open saying “woah that was amazing”. And I suppose neat is a bit of a bland word for them. The gravity based and zero gravity segments, and tying them together are some neat interactive set pieces. External sound is drowned out, you can hear the sound of your breath and heartbeat, bodies and debris float throughout, it’s a neat experience.įor the most part the game is broken down into these two types of gameplay. Of the many cool things about Dead Space 2 this is easily the coolest. Zero Gravity chambers will relay a completely awesome gravity effect on the environment where objectives must be completed to progress. Mixed in throughout is the constant reminder of your atmosphere. You will certainly be aiming down your sites when entering a new room, and if you don’t do it at the onset of the game, you will be by the end. The battles are tense, and when you aren’t battling anything it’s tense just because of the anticipation that builds. ![]() Similar to the gravity gun in Half-Life 2. Stasis can slow down your enemy’s movements and you can use a magnetic field to grab environmental objects and hurl them at your enemies. And while the gunplay might be the primary means of dispatchment for most enemies, there’s alot that goes into even the smallest battles. The whole game you are constantly scrounging for ammo, health packs, stasis refills, and anything else that will help you get a leg up on the necromorphs. Moving from area to area just waiting for something to pop up and give you a tension filled battle. I didn't like what I saw of that either.Varied 3rd Person Gameplay – The bulk of the gameplay is done in the third person, if not all of the gameplay. I was never a big fan of the Pulse Rifle. I also want to use this in my next play through. Especially when I got the special explosive tip for the spears. If I play again I'm gonna be using it a lot. I believe there are enemies that it can't blow off their limbs (although I could be wrong). Although it has a tough time killing some enemies. They totally nerf'd it.įorce Gun seemed very nice. You could even make it come closer to your body as enemies got closer (in DS1). In DS1 it was way further in front of the body and that's what made it so beastly. The main thing I hated in DS2 was how close it is to your body now. I was disappointed in the ripper! I LOVED it from DS1. But again, much better than when you first get it. Shooting speed is not great, even when fully upgraded. When upgraded the reload time is much faster (its horrible when you first get it). One shot kills on just about every non boss necromorphs. Its my go to weapon for killing bosses and tougher enemies. Its great from mid to long range, very powerful. Its shooting speed is ok, if you are in a room with 4 necromorphs and they charge at you from different directions, you are toast. It is horrendous from close range (you end up just hurting yourself). You have to know where enemies are located. The detonator is good when upgraded but it is difficult to use in many situations. It's good against every enemy in the game. It is wicked powerful and can shoot very quickly. This is a fact, the plasma cutter is the best weapon in the game. I saved the game in chapter 15 and tested out each weapon (took all my nodes and transferred them just for testing). ![]() Main Dead Space 2 weapon? - IGN Boards I tried out almost every weapon at max. ![]()
